The Hip Hop World is a lot like the Civil Rights Movement. I say that because, while the men received much of the credit for leading the movement, it was the women who had the responsibility to be the support system for these men and be able to act as a stabilizing agent for the movement. The women of hip hop are in a very similar position. While hip hop has always seen its share of female MC’s who achieved success, some might suggest that the female MC is just “eye candy” and can’t hold their own against their male counterparts. Well, I would like to serve notice to those of you that subscribe this way of thinking, “The Ladies are here!” One listen to Fem Mic Wreckers Vol. I, hosted by A.D. the General and DJ Papa Bear, and you’ll realize that these ladies are screaming to the world of hip hop that they are on the way!

If you believe in lyrical content over some of the “created” stars that are in hip hop right now, you won’t be disappointed when listening to this offering by all female MC’s. These ladies bring all they have to the table from the first track until the very last one. Featuring only female MC’s from across the country, the tracks run the gamut from the songs for “streets” ,(“Countdown” by Abyss, “Slave 2 My Rhyme Book” by Deena Jones, “Beef” by Tania the Angel, “We Don’t Care” by former Da Band member, Babs Bunny, and “All Out Warfare” by Toni Steelz) to the introspective ( “Success” by Quintescence, “U Don’t Know” by Dejha B., and “Who Is She?” by Cess Wonder), even some club bangers ( “Fast Pace” by Baby Sharn, “We On It” by SIYA, “Earthquake” by SYNSAYSHUN, “Put Me On” by MsFefe f/ MalaReignz and Leela, “Like Me Know” by Amanda The Dutchess and “Whats Good?” by Staxx Cordero), as well as some of HARDEST freestyles ( “Triumph” by Farrah Burns, “MF GO HEAD” by A.D. the General, “Zoo in the Jungle” by Hedonis da Amazon), you will hear on ANYTHING mixtape out now! Finally, if you think females can’t be hip hop storytellers, I invite you to listen to “GO” by 4 EVA, “I Love My Man” by Vonna Jewelz, “Who Am I” by Lady Tee, “Scream Trinity” by Goddess Tori MC, and “I Ain’t A Rapper” by Atlas, “The Art of Storytelling” wasn’t lost on these lyrical Olympians.

Overall, the Fem Mic Wreckers Volume 1 is an overall solid product for anyone who loves hip hop. Regardless of gender, any fan would enjoy the solid production, lyrical wizardry exhibited by these ladies, and the solid beats and thought provoking commentary given to you by these females. The ladies are ready to “Kick in the Door”, I’m not going to say I told you so…..they will not be denied any longer.
